Prevalence of pulmonary function abnormalities in type 2 diabetes mellitus and its association with HbA1c in nonsmokers

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder with vast social and economic consequences an ageing population obesity due to sedentary lifestyle are one of the foremost reasons for development type 2 diabetes mellitus. Aim current study was ascertain burden respiratory function abnormalities in diabetic subjects its correlation symptom hba1c non-smokers. Methods: This cross-sectional conducted KPC medical college, Jadavpur. Patients between age 30-80 years fulfilling modified Borg dyspnoea scale were included after excluding heart failure, COPD, musculoskeletal disorders. The selected then subjected PFT reversibility DLCO assessment Pattern abnormality recorded. Total 65 chosen study. Results: In our most patients had Restrictive Female 24 (42.9%) male 32 (57.1%). Rest 3 (50.0%) Mixed abnormality. (66.7%) female 1 (33.3%) patient normal which not statistically significant (p=0.6939). Conclusions: Pulmonary reduced diabetes. duration seems more important influence than glycaemic control, but definitive direction as well exact pathophysiological mechanism explain this association requires further investigation.
